Bobi Wine Speaks To CNN How He Survived Assassination Attempt

Ugandan presidential candidate and musician, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has told CNN that he survived what he called assassination attempts in the last two weeks ahead of next month’s elections.

The politician last week briefly suspended his campaigns after members of his campaign team were injured and his car damaged.

He told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that there was no level playing field for presidential candidates and the “military had taken over [policing] the campaign process”.

“I have to put on a bullet proof [vest] for me to able to campaign. I’ve survived two assassination attempts in the last two weeks where bullets have been shot in my car and on the tires and the windscreens,” he said.

Uganda will hold its election in January 2021. Bobi Wine is looking to unseat President Yoweri Museveni, who has governed the country for 34 years.
