Bus fire and unhurt passengers
Passengers boarding a bus which was headed to Mombasa were safe after alighting in it safely. It was a sight of a bus fire and unhurt passengers. It is a horrifying experience to be involved in accidents especially when travelling , we just give God thanks for our safe arrival to the various destinations .
Passengers on Tuesday evening escaped unhurt after the Mombasa bound bus they were travelling in caught fire. Incident happened in Masimba township in Makueni along the Mombasa Nairobi highway.
Witnesses said pedestrians along the road drew the driver’s attention to the fire after noticing that the Modern Coast bus was burning from its underside as it drove through the township. There was immediate action from the driver as the bus was stopped and passengers started alighting.
Commotion
“The passengers fell on each other as they disembarked when the bus stopped. No one was injured during the fracas,” Mr Benson Kilonzo, a truck driver who witnessed the incident said.
The bus was all in flames as the locals and motorists watched helplessly from a distance. They could not do anything.Fire engines in the country are too scarce and at very long distances from places such that they will take long to reach to where the fire incident is.
It was reduced to ashes, that is most of it. Not much was salvaged except the metallic remains of the bus. Following the incident, the passengers were stranded at the township. They appealed to the bus company to send another vehicle to take them to their destinations.
The passengers lost their luggage and could say the exact value that was lost but it was quite a lot.
Recommendations
Much happens and some of it we do not have control over. The government should ensure fire engines are spread widely all over the country. Bus companies and other vehicle owners should also ensure their cars are checked on regular intervals.
