Education CS advice parents to take children in public schools

Only boarders will be required to pay boarding fees. The day schools are free, Prof Magoha tells parents. The ministry is considering changing the school calendar. So that it begin in June next year to prevent learners from repeating classes. In the proposal, when school reopen in October, they will resume for the second term while third term will start January to March.

The government has a good option for parents. If you are unable to pay private school fees to transfer their children to free public schools when they reopen in October.  45,000 learners are to be transferred . This is because 131 private schools are being forced out of business by the Covid-19 pandemic and will not open.

“The government has made education free in this country for both primary and secondary school children. Anyone saying they do not have school fees must understand that, “Education Cabinet Secretary said. He received a task force report on school reopening. During the meeting, the Nation learnt something. They learnt that task force and education stakeholders suggested that schools reopen a week earliest than October 19th.

The CS was visibly angry after content of the task force report. Now under lock and key leaked, said only boarders will be required to pay boarding fees. Over 75 of the secondary schools are day schools whose tuition fee is paid by the government. For those in boarding school the principal is to address each individual case as it comes.
