Matiang’i Declares 10th October Huduma Day

Interior Security CS Fred Matiang’i has declared Saturday 10th a public holiday dubbed Huduma Day. This day was previously Moi Day. According to his Press Release, Matiang’i has recommended the day to be a National Prayer day for Kenya. He has urged Kenyans to partake prayers and community volunteerism.

President Uhuru Kenyatta shall lead the nation in prayers in an inter-faith service at the statehouse. The service shall also be live on all leading televisions and radio, and digital media platforms.

Huduma day came to life last year through a cabinet approval. They renamed from Moi Day. According to the statehouse, renaming the day was to commemorate the late President Moi’s desire to have the day as a day of service and volunteerism.

State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said the Head of State has dedicated October 9-11 a national weekend of prayer. In addition, she urges Kenyans to attend prayers at their worship places, adhering to covid-19 regulations.
