Education CS George Magoha has suffered a letdown after the Public Service Commission striped off his human resource management function. This comes after CS Magoha publicly humiliated Uasin Gishu County Director of Education (CDE) Gitonga Mbaka in front of colleagues and primary school pupils. Angered at the poor hyegenic conditions of the school, Magoha used a derogatory term on Mbaka, before shaming him.
“Nikisema wewe ni mjinga ni uongo (Would I be lying if I said you are foolish?)”, said a visibly angry Magoha. He was directly referring to the County Director of Education in front of his counterparts and school kids.
Thereafter, he ordered the officer together with the teachers present to collect litter around the school as the pupils watched in pure amusement.
This incident caused an uproar as many accused the CS of being insensitive. On Tuesday, November 10, KUPPET chairperson, Omboko Milemba said that Magoha’s behavior was unbecoming.
However, CS Magoha had refused to apologize to the officer for publicly humiliating him, saying that he was just doing his work.
“Nobody should be surprised at how I do things, I was in KNEC. I made things work and now I am here to protect the interest of parents and children. Anytime I cannot do that I have no business being here,” said Magoha.
The PSC has now accorded Magoha’s previous responsibilities to the Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education, Dr Richard Belio Kipsang.
Consequently, the PSC Chairman has written to all university and head of PSC, informing them of this step. The PSC has said that they made this move to “protect public servants against undignified and unwarranted attacks”.
