Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, To Vie For Nairobi Governorship

Gatundu South Member of Parliament has declared his ambitions to run for Nairobi governorship days after the City governor Mike Sonko was sent home by the Senate.

The lawmaker who has already made a poster asking Nairobians to support his candidature said that he will be running for office on a People’s Empowerment Party ticket.

Kuria’s ambitions comes hours after Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura was sworn in as the interim Nairobi governor by Justice Jairus Ngaah, pending a by-election within 60 days of his swearing in.

Moses Kuria is  a vocal lawmaker under Deputy President William Ruto Hustler’s movement and his ambitions comes barely a week after Feisal Bader an Independent candidate and a Ruto ally  won Msawmbweni by elections after gannering 15,251 votes beating his ODM close  competitor Omar Boga who got 10,444 votes in a hotly contested by-election.

Among others who are targeting the top seat include the 2017 Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna, former Starehe Member of Parliament Margaret Wanjiru, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and former Gatanga Member of Parliament and 2013 presidential aspirant, Peter Kenneth.

The Nairobi top seat was left vacant Thursday last week  after  senators upheld an impeachment motion that had been tabled by the Nairobi County  assembly.

Among the accusations that were made against Sonko included gross misconduct, abuse of office , violation of the constitution and crimes under national law. The lawmakers in the Senate voted on each ground where under the first accusation, gross violation of the constitution 27 voted YES and 16 NO.

The second accusation gross misconduct 27 voted YES while 16 voted NO. Under the third and fourth allegation 27 voted YES and 16 NO respectively.

Makueni law maker Mutula Kilonzo junior and his Nairobi counterpart Johnson Sakaja abstained.

Benson Mutura promised to restore sanity in the running of the affairs of the capital.
