Germany has suffered a second wave of covid-19 as daily infections increase exponentially. The new surge comes after play down of anti-COVID-19 regulations as many countries are slowly resuming normalcy. On Wednesday, Germany recorded a whooping 5,132 new cases, a figure rising from 2,467 in the previous day. On Thursday, 6,638 new cases emerged.
In the wake of this, Germany seeks to toughen measure to combat the new surge. On Wednesday, the country announced a new set of measures to the public as it enters a ‘decisive’ stage. This stage might mean that a lockdown is coming soon.

The new tougher measures have seen putting of curfew on bars, restaurants and other places deemed hotspots. In addition, social gatherings shall only have 10-15 people according to severity of infections in that area. Bars will close at 11pm.
A 16-hour meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country’s 16 premiers resulted into the new measures.
“I am convinced that what we do now will be decisive for how we come through this pandemic. We are already in a phase of exponential growth, the daily numbers show that,” Merker said.
Merker urges young people to remain vigilant and ‘hold less parties’ in order to have a future to hold more parties. “We must call especially on young people to do without a few parties now in order to have a good life tomorrow or the day after,” she said.
Many countries are attempting to resume normalcy after a long stress due to anti-COVID-19 measures. However, a second wave of the disease may plunge the world back into the ugly economic state it struggles to defeat.
