Magoha has intervened an emergency crisis meeting to address school reopening in Kenya.This comes after some information circulating around concerning school reopening.The information have caused confusion around the sector.The Cabinet Secretary of Education distanced himself from this.He blamed the media for misquoting him.
According to Citizen tv’s post,the key agenda of the meeting is addressing the fate of KCPE and KCSE candidates.A suggestion is that they resume next month and prepare adequately for the national exams.The examinations will be administered early next year.
Universities,colleges and all tertiary instituions may also reopen for physical classes.Comrades are really waiting for the outcome and most hope schools will reopen as early as next month.
It should be noted that it’s six months since the first case of Covid 19 was identified.This led to President directing all schools to be closed.It was done as a measure to control the spread of the pandemic.The effects of this “long holiday” is adverse and visible.Among them are increased rate of teenage pregnancies.This raises questions on how many school-going children will report if schools resume.Others are increased family violence,drug influence etc.
Different Kenyans have different opinions concerning reopening date.Therefore the outcome of the meeting is much awaited.
The chances of reopening for KCSE and KCPE candidates are high.The same is also for Universities,colleges and tertiary institutions.This is because of the current situation of covid 19.Lately the country has shown a sign of the curve flattening.
