Zetech University Rolls Out A Google Developers Club

Google Developer Communities Takes Root in Kenya as more Universities Roll out the DSCs.

Developer Student Clubs(DSC) are university based community groups for students interested in Google developer technologies.By joining a DSC, students grow their knowledge in a peer-to-peer learning environment and build solutions for local businesses and their community. Some of the universities with the programme include Zetech and DeKUT.

Zetech University Among the top Universities to roll out a DSC in Kenya

Google is now at Zetech University and interested students can apply here.

Tarifa News had a great opportunity to interview Chris Achinga,a student and lead of the DSC at Zetech. This is what he had for us:

1.What is dsc,How would you introduce it to an interested student who is not aware of it?

DSC ( Developer Student Clubs) is an initiative by Google Developers to create community of Developers extended to Universities.
It’s just like normal clubs but unique because DSC provides tools and a platform to create effective solutions to real life and society problems through technology.

2.Is it only for campus students? And if so,why?

DSC is a community. It’s not only for students, faculty members are also encouraged to join, you know in the world of technology, you never stop learning.

I love Developer communities, so I used to attend community sessions from other Institutions, then learnt of Developer Student Club, which by then wasn’t available at Zetech.

So I waited till google Developers oppened applications for new DSCs to be created, I applied and after a successful interview, we now have Developer Student Club Zetech University.

The applications were announced through which channel, incase someone else wishes to start one in their instituition, how should they go about it,are their requirements to be met?

Let me share the link.

Its open once for three months every year.

The application taught me one thing, you never stop learning and like teaching is learning twice.

Value team work

Currently it seems the clubs are not that much, can you please list some that are in Kenya?

There are alot of tech communities in Kenya,
