Malindi Member of Parliament, Hon. Aisha Jumwa and Orange Democratic Movement Secretary general, Edwin Sifuna have now since been summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over hateful remarks uttered in Msambweni last weekend.
In a statement of the allegations, the two politicians are said to have made comments “likely to affect harmonious coexistence between ethnic communities” within the surrounding area. This hateful utterance were made as they were campaigning for their respective party candidate in the recently concluded Msambweni mini- poll.
The commission statement summoned the ODM Secretary General on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 1000 hours while his fellow Malindi M.P, Aisha Jumwa who is facing murder charges is summoned on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 1000 hours. The Chairperson NCIC, Samuel Kobia said the language used by the leaders on the December 11, 2020 was reckless and shameful one.
He said, “The fact that any leader, especially those of the stature of the MP and Secretary General, can even consider using such languages is a low point for them and nation.” He condemned the behavior of the two politicians emphasizing that politicians should learn to respect the views of those on the opposing team.
The Msambweni mini- poll which saw a big win to Msambweni by poll independent candidate Feisal Bader beating his ODM’s counterpart Omar Bogar. Faisal garnered 15, 251 votes trouncing his closest challenger at 10, 444 votes.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) returning officer, Yusuf Abubakar declared Bader the winner of the hotly contested by- election on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 morning. Police said Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali and Lunga Lunga’s Khatib Mwashetani were also being sought over chaos at the Jomo Kenyatta Primary School polling centre.
