CS for Education Magoha announces the reopening of higher education institutions. The students who are in their last year of study to be precise. The institutions are to resume as per from october 5th 2020. They are also asked to ensure the COVID 19 measures are fully observed. The ministry of Education gave clearance for resumption of in person learning in tertiary institution on Tuesday.
Education cabinet secretary Prof George Magoha directs university councils and senates to prioritize reopening of science based courses. Thereafter, the Board of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training instituitions (TVETs) will announce the resumption date for other courses.With the help of Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) and University Councils.
Priority will be given to students taking science classes. All the institutions will be expected to adhere to the COVID 19 guidelines.Magoha said education ministry officials in conjunction with their public health counterparts conduct routine monitoring to ensure compliance.All those entering the institutions will be required to observe high level of hygiene, wear face masks, wash their hands and adopt innovative approaches to uphold the guidelines on physical and social distancing.
The ministry will ensure that institutions that had been designated as quarantine centres are fumigated under the supervision of the Ministry of Health prior to their re-opening. Learning institutions which don’t comply with the safety regulations will be closed. Education officials and public health officials will continuously monitor and review the levels of compliance with respect to the protocols.
The learning institutions will be required to sporadically monitor temperatures for all students, enforce observance of hygiene as well as adopt innovative ways of enforcing social distance. President Uhuru was, however, non-committal on the reopening of secondary and primary schools, saying the government will assess the situation before schools can be reopened. The CS was however directed by the president to give a school new calender.
