Reopening school for the rest of the students Magoha’sTeam Proposes

Education Cabinet Secretary visits various schools on 12th. So as to see how institutions are prepared. He also advised all students to report back to school on 26th Monday. He also talked about reopening school for the ofother students.

In the recommendation given all the other students should go back to school. This are the ones in pre-primary one and two. The grade one to three, class seven as well as those in form 1 to 3. They are to report back to school from 26th October to 2nd November.

“With the new proposals the education system will normalize. Probably by 2021 December” KNUT secretary General Wilson Sossion stated. The team is chaired by the KICD Chairperson Sarah Ruto.

There are other members in the team. Augustine Muthigani of Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops. Jane Mwangi of Kenya Association for Independent International Schools. National Council of Churches of Kenya’s Nelson Makanda. Muslim Education Council’s Sheikh Munawar Khan and Chairman Kenya Special Schools Heads Association Peter Sitienei.

The second term will take 11 weeks. The schools will close on 23rd December. It will be a short holiday for the candidates and Grade Four learners. They are expected to resume classes on 4th January 2021. In his press statement CS Magoha he revealed the new school calendar.

KCPE will start ln March 22nd and end on March 24th 2021. KCSE are scheduled to start on March 25th and end on April 16th, 2021.

TSC Chief Executive Officer is Nancy Macharia. She went on to assure parents that strict Covid-19 measures had been put in place in readiness for the students return.

Some of the measures and protocols include mandatory face masks. Also monitoring of body temperature and observance of high levels of hygiene.
On October 7th twi activities in Homa Bay filled a petition in court. This was to seek suspending the phased reopening of schools planned from Monday next week. In their petition they claimed many schools are not ready. They have not established necessary measures to ensure the spread of Covid-19 is minimised.

The case was filed on Wednesday and was certified urgent. A day later, High Court judge Kimani Ndung’u ordered that schools can reopen. This is after adhering to all Covid-19 protocols. CS Magoha is expected to officially announce the reopening dates of the rest of the classes.
