There has been an uproar in the social media after an unpaid doctor has succumbed to Covid-19. News of Dr. Stephen Magusu succumbing to this pandemic left Kenyans with soar ears after learning his woes. The news have it that Dr. Magusu had not received his salary for five months prior to his death, adding to his cup of misery.
According to KMPDU, Dr Magusu who was working in Machakos under UHC had was unpaid for 5 months, neither had he any insurance. Consequently, he has left his young family without anything to hold on to. Sadly, Dr Magusu had to literally beg for help while at the ICU from Kenyans, as KMPDU Secretary General, Dr. Chibanzi Mwachoda stated.
Unfortunately, Dr Magusu lost the fight at the ICU, leaving his family with nothing but bills to pay and tears to weep.
Kenyans took to twitter to express their dissatisfaction with what the Kenyan Government is doing to assist Medical Practitioners, who are the frontline soldiers in the fight against Covid-19.
You have paid the ultimate price for your service to humanity. When doctors strike we are called problematic, selfish, greedy, thoughtless. When doctors die it’s called tragic & we are called heroes…. but we didn’t sign up to be martyr’s.
🥺 My heart goes out to the family of Dr. Stephen Mogusu. May His soul rest in peace😔#NoMoreMartyrs pic.twitter.com/VBQ6ybXD16— Kabs Kimani (@kabs_kimani) December 7, 2020
Roaing Strike
Previously, doctors had paused their strike, previously scheduled for 6th December in order to allow discussions with the government. However, this occurrence will most likely put a strife between the medics and the government
Dr.Magusu’s death is huge blow to the medics and all Kenyans. We pass our condolences to the family of Dr. Magusu as we urge all Kenyans to keep safe.
