Kenyans have received the BBI report with varied opinions and energy. However, they do not really have a stake in how this report shall proceed. A close look at the behavior of Kenyans will reveal how easy it is for anyone to manipulate them. Below is a few reasons why Kenyans will not decide BBI’s fate.
Kenyans will not Read the Report
After the first BBI report was released earlier this year, Kenyans got excited about it, attended political rallies and chose sides. However, majority never read it. There are many reasons to this, but the main ones are:
- Some never even accessed copies of the report.
- Those who had it simply did not have time to read it.
- The illiterate society could only listen to it.
- The language used in the report uses the law jargon, not many can understand a thing.
This time, Kenyans are not likely to behave differently. This means that very few people will ever understand the report. It is common sense that you cannot make a sound decision on something you do not understand.
Kenyans Rely on their Political Idols
Regardless of the gravity of any matter, Kenyans shall always go with what their preferred political kingpin decides. A few hours after releasing of the BBI report, Embakasi East MP urged all supporters of Raila Odinga to support the BBI without having to go through the ‘stress’ of reading it.
“Advice to Kenyans, You don’t have to read the BBI report when Baba says it’s good then it is. He has gone through it and the content is for the interest of Kenyans.7 years tax holiday for youth. After the tax holiday the youth will go for Sex holiday”, said Babu on his twitter account.
That is just a simple illustration of how much Kenyans depend on their kingpins. They shall go with anything these leaders say without giving it a second thought.
Politicians will Charge Kenyans to their Preferred Sides
Since politicians understand the amount of influence they have on Kenyans, they shall use it to influence how Kenyans decide on this. They shall use every chance they get including rallies, church gatherings, fundraisers and every possible gathering to drive their agenda. It is worth noting that most of them only represent their own agenda, coated with fake empathy to the public.
As Kenyans continue to be in the darkness, they cannot choose the light that should shine upon them. Therefore, they will embrace anything that shall be thrown at them, regardless of whether it is good or not. this means that manipulation shall be the order of the day.
Conclusively, it is instructive to note that regardless of the agenda of the report, the decision of how it changes Kenyan narrative is totally upon political leaders.
