Tim Wanyonyi Ensures Transparent Bursary Process in Kitisuru Ward

Today marked the final day of the NG-CDF bursary application process in Kitisuru Ward, a key initiative aimed at supporting the education of Westlands’ youth. The process was held concurrently at Loresho Primary School and Lower Kabete Primary School, with Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi leading the event.

In his remarks at the event, Hon. Tim Wanyonyi expressed deep gratitude to the community:

“Thank you for standing with me during the demise of my mother in December. Your support, whether in person or through your prayers, has meant a great deal to my family and me.”

He explained that due to Kitisuru’s large size, the bursary process was divided between two venues to enhance accessibility. “The kids must be in school—no excuses. They are the future of this country. With the new CBC system, every child deserves an education,” he emphasized.

To ensure transparency, Hon. Wanyonyi reiterated that all bursary forms are provided free of charge, without any manipulation. “Once you get the form, you will receive your cheque. This is your right as taxpayers, and we have streamlined the process to minimize errors,” he stated.

At Loresho Primary School, a total of 650 secondary slots and 200 college slots were allocated. At Lower Kabete Primary School, 350 secondary slots and 100 college slots were distributed, bringing Kitisuru Ward’s overall allocation to 1,000 secondary and 300 college applications.

Frida Lenayasa, Chairlady of NG-CDF Westlands, also addressed the gathering:

“I know some of you came in here very early for the sake of educating your children. We came here as NG-CDF Westlands to deliver the bursary to our constituents. We have allocated 650 secondary slots for Loresho and 200 college slots for Loresho, while at Lower Kabete, 350 secondary and 100 college slots have been distributed.”

She continued, highlighting the broader developmental impact in Kitisuru:

“We are doing a lot of development in Kitisuru, including Loresho Secondary which was started by MP Tim Wanyonyi. In Kitisuru, we have Lower Kabete and Farasi Lane. At Farasi Lane Secondary, we are building 5 classrooms and 2 labs. Additionally, we have built 4 new classrooms at Lower Kabete and a 12-door ablution block. NG-CDF is all about development, and you can see these improvements firsthand.”

Hon. Wanyonyi also addressed broader issues affecting Westlands. He criticized attempts to divert NG-CDF funds to counties—a move he opposes, arguing that such funds are meant to serve the people, supporting everything from schools to police stations. “We have engaged lawyers to fight any decision that seeks to make NG-CDF unconstitutional and to divert these essential resources,” he warned.

He further highlighted the government’s commitment to educational infrastructure, noting that the president has allocated 30 classrooms per constituency to enhance junior secondary education. “Before NG-CDF, few could access bursaries due to bureaucratic hurdles. Today, we are making a difference,” he remarked.

The MP underscored the importance of continued academic excellence among bursary recipients. Parents were urged to track their children’s progress and submit report forms during school holidays. He also encouraged registration for SHA despite its current challenges, emphasizing that accountability and adherence to the rule of law are essential.

Addressing political dynamics, Hon. Wanyonyi reminded those eyeing political positions in Westlands that the people will evaluate performance by 2027. “For those aspiring to my seat, wait until 2027 for the people to judge my track record. Meanwhile, let us focus on our children’s education and community development,” he stated.

Kitisuru MCA Alvin Olando also praised the event, noting, “I want to congratulate Hon. Tim for his outstanding work in keeping education at the forefront—a stark contrast to the sluggish performance we see elsewhere in City Hall.” Olando further called for improvements in local infrastructure, such as tarmacking roads to facilitate easier access to schools.
